Due to his awareness of the complicated background of the political and security scene in Iraq, mister Al-Abadi is well aware that the correction wheel will not roll without obstacles evoked by the corrupt and affected individuals, and the core of the threat is that the counter-correction action may push things too far ahead into the edge of chaos and the unknown towards an inevitable doom. This requires taking additional and firm precautionary security procedures to deal with the threats imposed by the current stage and preserve the security, strength, and unity of the inner fronts that projects courage and strength, providing aid, troops and support to the war fronts to aid them in continuing their battle. And in the non-analytical context of events, the capital has already had incidents indicating the worse, as it witnessed minor security breaches that quickly escalated soon after, the most dangerous of them being what took place the morning of Wednesday the 2nd of this September with the abduction of 18 Turkish workers working in the construction of the Olympic Stadium in Al-Habibiya.
It might be too soon to guess who’s responsible for the abduction or talk about some details that are still a mystery as the matter is still newly under investigation and security and court pursuit, only this doesn’t prevent describing the incident as highly dangerous, and that it forms a major challenge for the security file in capital, and lies within the frame of attempts for creating disruption and chaos, imposing the consideration of every possibility. And this dangerous incident aims towards the following:
- Checking the government’s reaction.
- Testing the security systems assigned to protecting the capital and their way of handling this situation, and to test their combat ability and preparation as a prior step for a more dangerous breach.
- Evoking political and security problems and fabricating a new crisis of political complication with the neighboring countries.
- Opening more than one front for distracting purposes.
- Earning more time and biting on the element of time to delay the moment of prosecuting the corrupt as much as possible.
- Spreading tension and stress in the streets.
- Creating a distraction from what’s regionally been planned for Iraq in the Doha conference that was held in Qatar at the morning of Thursday the 3rd of this September.
It’s expected that the next stage will witness more escalations and security tension, met by a governmental will that sat its mind on going through with the procedures and decisions of correction, prosecuting and confronting corruption and the corrupt, and firmly dealing with the abduction gangs and organized crime. And that is what was confirmed by mister Al-Abadi who ordered the security systems to chase these criminals and described them as terrorists and outlaws. In my opinion, the tragedy of the Turkish workers will be over soon with their release through the efforts of the specialized security systems and the responsible cooperation showed by the citizens, and the abductors will be arrested and tried in court. This dangerous breach – from a military aspect – reveals a weakness and an obvious regression in the security performance that failed to deal with the situation for many reasons that require evaluation from the operation leadership in Baghdad which needs –now more than ever- to increase the precautionary procedures, maneuverability plans, and more alertness and caution while keeping a close eye on the movements of the military, governmental, and semi-formal groups, subjecting them to the military regulations and weapon transporting instructions, by setting the path from the take-off point to the arrival point with written clear orders. It also revealed the importance of coordination and cooperation between the security systems and the PMF in the frame of leadership and control. So as to take away the opportunity from the ones fishing in troubled waters, the outlaws, the leaders of organized crimes, and terrorists that are wanting evil for Iraq and its people.
